Rev. Gerald Murray Questions Vatican's Rupnik Trial: The New York-based canon lawyer criticises the lack of transparency in the Vatican's canonical trial against Marko Rupnik. "Why don't we know who the judges are?" he asked talking to Raymond Arroyo on 25 July. Rev Murray also pointed out that "we don't know which charges" are being levelled against Rupnik. Finally, he argues that victims who provided evidence should have the right to participate in the process. "The whole thing is a horrific problem."

Senator Whitehouse | The Bottom Line
...seeing a “wholesale violation” of campaign promise to avoid unnecessary wars, especially the United States-Israel war on Iran, US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse argues. The Democrat tells host Steve Clemons that the Iran war has been “managed just spectacularly incompetently and dishonestly”. Other countries increasingly see the US as similar to “some of the worst-behaved countries they have to deal with, where bribe requests, side deals, personal favours and ulterior motives are really what’s going on,” Whitehouse says. He adds that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “hasn’t been a good friend”.

Depressive Former Medjugorje Believer Arrested for Vandalizing the Shrine

A 31-year-old Polish man, identified by regional media as Bartłomiej Włodzimierz Krakowiak, has been arrested for vandalizing the Marian shrine of Medjugorje during the night of 27–28 July, just days before Mladifest, which is expected to attract around 50,000 young pilgrims.
"Medjugorje Is a Deception"
The suspect allegedly poured black paint over statues of the Virgin Mary on Apparition Hill and at the Blue Cross, wrote "Devil in a skirt" on one statue. He hung banners accusing the six visionaries of being "frauds - I have proof", spray-painted slogans including "Medjugorje is a deception," "Only Jesus," and "Mary = devil," and set fire to the recently renovated outdoor altar behind St. James Church.
He was arrested hours later in Černo, near Ljubuški, heading toward the Croatian border.
Former Pilgrim
The case is particularly striking because the suspect had previously visited Medjugorje as a pilgrim. Regional media report that in 2017 he walked 1,300 km from Warsaw to the shrine, …Bontsi

German Archbishop: Homosexual March Is "Joyful and Moving Celebration"

Berlin’s homosex march 'Christopher Street Day' is a “joyful and moving celebration.” That is what pro-homosexual Archbishop Heiner Koch of Berlin told KNA on Sunday. He spoke after an attack on the march on Saturday evening.
One woman was killed, and at least 31 others were injured, some of them seriously.
The attacker, Abdul B., 21, drove a car into the crowd and was later - conveniently for the justice system and politicians - shot dead during a police operation.
The full context of Archbishop Koch's statement is: "How terrible! To brutally destroy such a joyful and moving celebration. We keep all the victims, their families, friends, and everyone whose joy has been taken away by hatred in our prayers. Hatred must not prevail."
Abdul B. was born in Berlin in 2005 and grew up there. His parents are from Lebanon, and he held German citizenship. His family belongs to a large extended clan. He had been known to the security authorities for years and was considered part of the Islamist …Bontsi

New Zealand to Build First New Cathedral in Over 120 Years: The Diocese of Christchurch has unveiled the design for the new Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, which will stand on the site of the original cathedral destroyed after the devastating Canterbury earthquakes (2010-2011). The new cathedral will preserve historic stained-glass windows. It's a roughly $80 million New Zealand dollar project (about US$46m). The diocese is currently in a fundraising phase. Partner is the architecture firm Warren and Mahoney. The style is "an ancient design, a Romanesque and Gothic hybrid model".

Washington Cardinal "Allows" Female Preaching - Report

Cardinal Robert McElroy of Washington D.C. authorised monthly lay "commentary" during the Eucharist at the Jesuit parish of Holy Trinity in Georgetown, according to BigModernism.Substack.com (July 28).
The blog published a letter dated 4 February 2026 and signed by Fr James Casciotti, SJ. The letter responds to concerns raised by a correspondent about the parish's liturgical practices.
Fr Casciotti addresses several issues, including chatting until just before the Eucharist.
The key passage states: "You should know that the Cardinal has given permission for lay commentary once a month at Holy Trinity [...]".
The letter does not identify the cardinal by name. In February 2026, Cardinal Robert McElroy was Archbishop of Washington, having been appointed in January 2025 and installed in March 2025.
Separately, the blog cites a firsthand account from a reader alleging that the practice involved a woman delivering what functioned as the homily during Mass under the name "commentary." According …Bontsi

More Than Kings

– Folha de S. Paulo, March 28, 1984 –
by Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira
In my long public life, I have never been a politician. I was not one, even in 1934 when I served as a representative for São Paulo in the constituent assembly on the “Single Slate.” In fact, on that slate, I did not represent any political party but the large non-partisan organization known as the Catholic Electoral League.
During my term, I took a personal stance — different from that of my caucus — only on issues related to defending the Church and Christian civilization. After my term ended, the two main political groups in São Paulo — the PRP and the Constitutionalist Party — politely yet insistently invited me to join their slates for the 1935 election. I chose instead to run as an independent candidate, even though the results of that election (which should be noted) were fiercely contested.
I recall all these facts to clearly show how long I’ve been detached from party politics. It is a detachment that only very …Bontsi

US Archbishop Defends Mosque as Muslims' "God-Given Right"

Pro-homosexual Archbishop John C. Wester of Santa Fe, New Mexico, defended "our Muslim neighbors' right to worship" in a July 27 statement.
He had heard in recent weeks concerns from some residents regarding the proposal to build a mosque and community center in Albuquerque's North Valley.
"Our Muslim neighbors have the same God-given and constitutionally protected right to worship freely as every other faith community, including our own. Defending that right is not only a civic duty but a core element of Catholic teaching", the Archbishop wrote.
According to Monsignor Wester, supporting the construction of a mosque is entirely consistent with Catholic tradition and moral commitments. He urged Catholics to "choose respect, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence."
In 2025, it emerged that, Archbishop Wester promoted and lived with a priest who had spent ten years in a registered homosexual relationship.

He was asked by Solicitor Dorsey:
"What is your business?"
"I am city bacteriologist and chemist."
He was handed the chips from the pencil factory flooring.
"Did you test these chips?"
"Yes. Some detectives brought me these specimens and asked me to examine them. They were considerably dirty and stained. On one of them I found blood corpuscles."
"Was it human blood?"
"I don't know."
"Did you examine the bloody shirt?"
No Appearance of Being Worn.
"Yes. I inspected the spots. In the armpits of the garment I could find no odor or evidence that it had been worn since having been laundered last. Some spots were smeared on the inside, and …
